The Rules of the Game

The Rules of the Game
I swear I didn’t do this on purpose. Tonight I felt like watching an acclaimed foreign film so we pulled Jean Renoir’s The Rules of the Game out of our collection to give it a watch. Only after we had started watching it did I realize that you could consider it a rebuttal to yesterday’s movie. If you’ve read our reviews for Taken then you know that it was a movie with some serious issues about gender roles in society – which is what this movie could also be considered. Of course in addition to looking at infidelity, gender issues and the fickle nature of love this film also deals with class issues and even looks at antisemitism.
